Devotional Passage
“A fast so that we might humble ourselves before our God and ask him or a safe journey for us and our children with all our possessions.” – Ezra 8:21
The Pharisee’s in Jesus day fasted, yet something that was lacking in many of them was humility. I find it interesting that this Scripture was fasting in order to humble themselves before God. They fasted with purpose and intent. During this month of fasting let us humble ourselves before the Lord. Let us ask Him to search our hearts and show us if there are areas in ourselves that need to be walking in humility, that we are not. Let us not get proud of the fact we are abstaining from certain foods but understand that the reason we even have food to eat is because the Lord provides it. We are not our own, we were purchased with a high price, the Blood of Jesus. Often humility is overlooked this day and age, but it is vital in our walk with God and others as His children. So let us be purposeful and humble ourselves before our God. Seek Him with all our heart as we fast.

Heavenly Father, we ask that You search our hearts. If there is pride within us, please reveal that to us. Help us to humble ourselves before you Lord and be humble with others. Jesus was so humble and is our ultimate example of what humility looks like. Conform us to the image of Your Son, especially this month, in the ways of humility. We thank you God for your love and mercy on us even during the times we were puffed up with pride. We worship and praise You and You alone. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
