Built to Last

Everything that is built is built on top of the foundation. And when the foundation is solid, what is built has a better chance of being built to last. It is able to support the weight of the building, along with any additional stressors like people, furnishings and more. The foundation is solid anchor keeping the building stable and secure — however without a solid foundation the building will eventually fall. Our spiritual lives are a lot like a building being built and when it is not built on something solid and secure it will not be stable and secure. Jesus taught on this:

“So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.” Luke 6:46-49 (NLT)

We all put our faith, trust, and hope in someone or something–and what we our faith, hope, and trust in becomes the foundation for life. Many of us build the foundation of our lives in money, possessions, popularity, relationships, drugs and alcohol, jobs and even sex. These things are temporal and when the storms of life begin to rage, those things will surely float away and we are left feeling helpless.  We are encouraged in Luke 6:47 to build our spiritual house on the rock, Jesus, by listening to His Words and then living it out.

The storms will come.  But when you are building your life on the foundation of Christ, those storms are a lot less intimidating. You will get hurt, lose some things and relationships, but your foundation will stand firm – as it built to last.

Meditation Prayer

Father, God, guide me on the path of wisdom, that we may live out Your Word in deed, as well as word. I desire Father to come to you, hear what  you say and then build my life in total obedience to you. Let my lifestyle be an example of an unshakable foundation that dare not trust the sweetest frame but wholly lean on Jesus’ name. So be it unto me – Amen.
