Increase My Faith

DEVOTIONAL PASSAGE

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. – 2 Peter 3:18

DEVOTIONAL MESSAGE

How do you grow spiritually and increase your faith? I used to struggle with the answer to this as a newborn in Christ. In time I’ve learned the way to build and increase my faith is thru reliance on God. Romans 10:17 state that, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” I have learned to read the Word or at least hear the word it increases your faith. If no one had ever told me about Jesus, His plans for my life or if I never read for myself about him, I would have been very clueless — lost, and confused about my need for faith. We need to read the Word daily because when we fail to, we are ignoring what God is telling us and then our faith grows stagnant. When I started reading and hearing God’s Word I saw many changes in my life. One change was that I began getting rid of the Lodebar people who did not mean me any good. God revealed to me things that I never thought I would see from people that I loved and thought were my true friends. He revealed that they really wanted nothing good to happen for me, they were actually praying for my downfall. But God! He kept me and He gave me strength to push thru and to grow spiritually every day. I don’t know where I would be without Him. I am grateful I am here and in the right state of mind because many cannot say the same.

Trusting him with smaller problems has built our faith to trust Him with the bigger issues. The first time my husband and me had to admit we were financially challenged, we had to lean into God to gain wisdom on how to bring us out of a place of bad decisions. When big crisis erupted, like unemployment, parenting, and marriage challenges, we came to know the true meaning of “perseverance” by holding fast to His Words. Now when difficulties develop, we face it differently. We look back and see the tracks of God’s faithfulness, and how He has kept His Word and we push thru to the promise. Now don’t get me wrong, I am still growing spiritually because at times I feel myself falling back to what I am comfortable in, but then I remember there’s no challenge that my father can’t handle. To each level that we grow spiritually there comes a new level of challenges, but the question is will we trust God and the promises we had read or heard in his Word? If we choose to believe God, our faith increases more and more.

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER

Lord Jesus, increase our faith as we learn to depend on You and trust You more and more. Help us to hunger for Your word: to read it, to heed it, and to test it, so it can be truly become part of our lives. We long to be doers and not hearers of your Words. Lord, we desperately need more of You and less of ourselves. Thank You for Your faithfulness and always keeping Your word. Amen
