Power and Authority

Devotional Scripture

And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal. And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics. And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart.  And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. ~ Luke 9:1-6

Are you ready to handle the power and authority God wishes you to exercise on His behalf? Are you eager to place yourself at His service, to do whatever He bids you, and to witness His truth and saving power to whomever and wherever He sends you? The Lord entrusts us with his gifts and talents not for worldly, fleshly gain but to use to change and transform not just our life, but the lives of others. Jesus gave his apostles both power and authority to speak and to act in his name – to cast out evil spirits, to heal, and to speak the word of God to bring life.  When Jesus spoke of power and authority He did something unheard of, He granted us the same power and authority with love and humility to use it for His good in the earth. He wants to work in and through each of us for His Glory but He wants you to travel light. Allowing your spirit to be free from soul ties, greed, the preoccupation with possessions and things so that you can make ample room for God’s provision and power in your life. The Lord wants His disciples to be dependent on Him and not on themselves so that they can experience the full measure of a fulfilled life in His divine destiny.

Meditation Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus I ask you to make you a channel of Your grace, healing and love so that others may find life and freedom in You. Make me free from all other attachments so that I may joyfully pursue the things of heaven. I ask you Father to allow me to walk in the full measure of your power and authority so that I may be a witness to others of the joy of the gospel in both word and deed. Amen.
