Resolutions & Solutions

The reoccurring theme right now is, Resolutions.  Everyone is bent on making resolves for the new year.  They are making a decision to do something different or to completely stop doing certain things in hopes of improving themselves and their outlook for the new year.

I looked up the definition of resolution and I noted that most of the words used to define this term ended in -ing.  Meaning you are in the process of doing something or in action of things like; eating better, spending less, studying more, or going to church.

See with Resolutions, it puts you in the process of doing or not doing something, but so many of remain stuck in the process.  We need solutions.  Solutions are answers or results.  I can declare a resolution and begin the process but I can remain stuck there or never complete the process if I never apply the solutions.

For instance, one of my resolves this year is to work on my finances and budget.  It sounds good and I can begin tracking my expenses and spending but without any accountability, I’ll fall off.  I recognized the solution to my problem is accountability.  Pastor Yolanda has offered to assist and provide additional information to aide my efforts.  Now my resolution has a solution and I can succeed in completing what I’ve started for the new year.

One of the greatest solutions that I know comes from scripture, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV  This helps me because I am leaning on God for my accountability.  I am trusting Him to guide my solutions to the things I want to change for my life in the new year.  Before I react, I’ll remember to acknowledge Him and allow Him to direct me.  He can do it!

I started last year, 2017 with some resolutions and I knew they could have been a struggle for me but I prayed and recited that scripture and God provided the solutions.  He gave me the strength to cut things, people, and places out of my life.  I knew with Him, I could do it.  He provided me with an awesome support team to ensure I applied my solutions, including Pastor Yolanda and The Sanctuary Ministries.

Decide today to take charge of your New Year’s Resolutions by identifying solutions and finishing what you start.  My prayer for you is that you will acknowledge and trust God to guide you in the New Year, and you will no longer lean to your own understanding.
