Search My Heart

Romans 12:12-21  says to be cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder.  Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.  Bless your enemies; no cursing under your breath.  Laugh with your happy friends when they’re happy; share tears when they’re down.  Get along with each other; don’t be stuck-up. Make friends with nobodies; don’t be the great somebody.  Don’t hit back; discover beauty in everyone.  If you’ve got it in you. get along with everybody.  Don’t insist on getting even; that’s not for you to do.  “I’ll do the judging,” says God. “I’ll take care of it.”  Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he’s thirsty, get him a drink.  Your generosity will surprise him with goodness.  Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good.

I have to laugh with joy when I read this cause honestly it sounds like something you would learn in kindergarten. It is so simplistic a small child could understand and yet many of us spend our lives not getting it. Could we have made it way more complicated in our minds then it is? Have we allowed ourselves to believe that this is too hard, when really it is harder to hate and be angry then to be forgiving and kind? Forgiveness and kindness is a choice, it isn’t based on feelings but on a decision. A lot of these choices and whether they are hard to do or not is really how we perceive them to be in our minds.  If we are thinking it is too hard to forgive our enemies then it is going to be hard to forgive our enemies. We are in the season where we need to do away with all bitterness and not only forgive our enemies but love them.
 Prayer of Worship
Let’s pray:  Father we ask in the name Jesus you search our hearts today and reveal to us any bitterness or offense we may be holding on to. May we repent and release that over to you. Father show us ways we can bless those who curse us and be good to all people. Help us love as you love, give as you give and forgive quickly and thoroughly. God, we thank you that your grace and mercy shows us kindness. We thank you and praise you for forgiving us!
