The Fire Gives New Life

Devotional Scripture

“So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. [This proving of your faith is intended] to redound to [your] praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed. ” – 1 Peter 1:7 (AMP)

The refiners fire is the place of testing of our faith and the stretching of our mindsets and ways of doing things. The place where we come to see for ourselves as we truly are. Do we believe with all of our heart that God is who He says in His Word and are we living as such? It is a challenging place, where things that we had buried within our hearts are brought to the surface. Will we run and try to push those things back down or will we surrender to the Holy Spirit for Him to do the work within us to heal those wounds and do away with unbelief? As a son or daughter of the most high God we will be tested, it is not a question of if but when. Many of us are in this season now, it can almost seem surreal during the process. There is a pressure in the fire and it is hot. Things that used to be so familiar and comfortable no longer are. Just like on a hot summer day we remove layers to keep ourselves cool, the refiners fire pulls back the layers within and exposes what needs to released and renewed. This fire will not kill you, it is not like a house fire that if we remain in it, it will take your life. The refiners fire will give you new life. You can trust your Lord that even in the fire you shall come out not smelling like smoke but with the most beautiful fragrance that is pure and sweet.

Prayer of Worship

God I ask that those of us who are in the fire right now would be encouraged. That we rest in knowing that the refiner’s fire is a gift from you. The results of going through are eternal and the glory goes to you. We thank you that we are never in the fire alone and that you never leave us. Have your way, conform us to the image of your Son. In Jesus name we pray, Amen
