Your Body is Your Temple

DEVOTIONAL

“Fearfully and wonderfully made” is how King David described God’s creation of human beings (Psalm 139:14). David praised God for this marvelous work called the human body. There are several references in the Bible where the body is actually likened to a temple (John 2:21; 1 Corinthians 6:19). I’m just not convinced nor sold on the mindset that God has given us these human bodies to use, abuse, and/or destroy. So the question is, why did He give us these bodies and what is His expectation for our use of our bodies?
Many people tend to operate in the mindset of this is my body, and we all have to die from something someday. So, they tend to not see the value of themselves, or their body’s purpose here on this earth. God has a purpose for orchestrating everything that He does, and He did not stumble across an image somewhere and on a whim decide to make you just like it because He couldn’t find anything better to do with His time. No, that wasn’t the case at all. He created the human body with a specific purpose in mind. And that was for us to serve and praise Him, and to grow into the righteous character of God. We can’t fulfill His purposes that He has for our lives if we don’t start taking care of our own temple. We can do this by feeding it The Word of God as well as the good fruits of the earth, and not this imitated process foods made by man’s hand. Join me in prayer as I seek after God for the renewing of our good life health and strength.

DEVOTIONAL PRAYER

Father, we know now that we are the Temples of the Living God. And, just as You have said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” Father we are coming out from among that is in the world and separating ourselves far from them. We will not touch that which is unclean, and we will receive You in Your son’s Jesus name Amen and Amen.
